The Eyes Have It

Nice Legs

The legs are a bit shapelier than normal because they have decided to retain water lately - hence the pretty white Ted hose. Although, truthfully, my legs are naturally just about that same shade of white.

I know you’re going to get tired of hearing about Ed. Some days he doesn’t dominate my thoughts. Today is not one of those days. So I give you
A Haiku for Ed
Time out for grieving
My heart, my love, my true friend
Gone on without me
Time for rejoining
Life, laughter, day-to-day grind
Alone once again
Good friends surround me
There is much that needs doing
I’m busy once more
Grandchildren to love
Mary Kay business to build
Blog posts to compose
I’ll sew and I’ll read
And I’ll sing, dance, and have fun
And remember you

Mimi Writes had a good idea and decided to share it with others. I heard about it from Roger at Idaho Photo. Below is the story from Mimi herself. This is not a meme for which I will be tagging you. Please tag yourself and join the BlogBlast for Peace on June 4, 2008. I’ve already begun working on my post for peace. I think this is an idea worth supporting. Be sure to check out the blogs on June 4 whether you participate or not.
BlogBlast For Peace Meme ~ Join The Revolution
Here are the rules and the story.
Copy this into a post, ADD YOUR NAME to the bottom of the tag list and tag as many people as you’d like.
The Peace Globe project began in the fall of 2006 with a simple post from one blog, Mimi Writes. The post ignited a flame in the blogosphere. The flame became a passion. The passion became a movement. It amazingly traveled from blog to blog to blog across the globe. Bloggers wrote passionate articles on what peace means to them, along with the promise of three Latin words scribbled on a globe - Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) - branded with the integrity of their names or blog names. It was positively inspiring to watch. And it began to happen all over the world - from Singapore to China to Afghanistan to Brooklyn.
It was simple. And powerful.
In less than one week bloggers from all across the globe will blog for peace.
We will speak with one voice. One subject. One day.
Won’t you join us? June 4, 2008
1. Choose one of the four Peace Globe designs in this post. Right CLICK and SAVE in JPG format. Grab the globe at the top or go HERE for other choices.
2. Sign the globe using Paint, Photoshop or a similar graphics tool. Decorate the globe anyway you wish. You can even include the name of your blog. Click here for hundreds of inspiring examples from previous BlogBlasts. If you need help with this, ASK! I will help you myself or send someone else to your blog.
3. Return the peace globe to me via email ~ mimiwrites2005 at yahoo.com - Let me know your blog’s name and url by leaving a comment here and signing the Mr. Linky. Your submission will be numbered and dated in the official gallery . Your globe and post will be listed on the Official BlogBlast For Peace website and The Peace Globe Posts page.
Here’s the most important part.
4. On June 4, 2008 DISPLAY YOUR GLOBE IN A POST. Title your post “Dona Nobis Pacem”. This is important. The goal is for all blog post titles to say the same thing on the same day. Write about peace that day or simply fly your globe. Click here for examples of peace globe posts from previous BlogBlasts.

1.
Jenn recently asked about my new mattress and my bamboo sheets. I love them both! The sheets are still smooth and soft, and the mattress lulls me to sleep but does not wake me with a backache. What more could you want?
2. I love Chinese take-out. There is always so much left-over. But - you have to make sure you get the Chicken Almond instead of the chow mein. Leftovers need to be something you want to eat!
3. “Taps” - This haunting melody has long had the power to bring tears to my eyes. I once read words for this melody, but could remember only the first phrase “Day is done.” For a history of Taps and to read the different words that have been used go here.
4. Did you know that after military rites at a funeral some of the spent rounds are picked up and presented to the widow? I didn’t know this. I was expecting the flag, but not the shells. Have you ever tried to explain rifle shells to a curious 9-year-old boy while driving down the highway? The difference between the bullet and the shell? Blanks? A boy who knows nothing about guns and ammunition other than what he has picked up from tv?
5. Summer vacation started this week for my grandkids. School may think it’s summer, but the weather hasn’t got the word yet.
6. Instead of flowers my niece sent me a kit to grow an oak tree. It included an acorn that had already been started, a pot, some soil, and some moss. In 45-60 days I should have a small oak tree ready to plant in the yard. As we are planning to move in a year or two I think I shall plant my oak tree in a pot so that I can take it with me when we go.
7. Tonight I will go to my first training meeting as a Mary Kay consultant. Turns out this wasn’t an auspicious time to start a new business. Too many distractions just lately. It’s gonna take me a bit longer to earn my pink Cadillac now. =)
8. I have been teasing my family about being the “Widow Adams.” I intend that she shall be someone with a slightly naughty reputation - a lady who can always be counted on for a laugh or two - a real “Merry Widow” - and she’s gonna dance every chance she gets!
9. We had a new great-grand daughter born the day after Ed was buried. We believe she was ushered into this life by her grandpa. I have to get busy and make her a blanket. Eeeek!

10. How are we going to keep the kids busy this summer? Left on their own they fight and try to hurt each other. Emmy has opted to go to summer school. I’m going to try to get Jessica to work with me to make a quilt for her bed. With a bit of luck this can turn into a project that will encourage her to use her math skills. Graydon may end up in summer school whether he likes it or not. He has struggled with reading and with getting his work done on time. Summer school would help him retain what he has learned so he starts out with an advantage next year.
11. My friends and neighbors. They rallied ’round me and my family when we needed them. They brought us food and flowers and lots of hugs. I still have German chocolate cake and chocolate chip pumpkin bread left.
12. Dancing with the Stars - this is one of my favorite shows and I enjoyed watching the finals. Kristie Yamaguchi won! She was so good.
13. Water - We had so much snow this season and it is starting to melt. And we’ve been having some rain, too. There is danger of flooding north of us. The flood gates have been opened to let water out of some of the reservoirs. I gotta get over to the river and get some pictures of the high water.

Shoshone Falls of the Snake River. I took these photos about a month ago. I had planned to get some new ones this week, but it was raining too hard to get out and take the shots. I hope to get some shots while the river is still high from the snow-melt and all the rain we’ve been having.

| What Your Taste in Chocolate Says About You |

You are unique, creative, and fascinating.
You don’t do what’s expected of you.
You go for what’s unknown and uncharted.
You are down to earth and lovable.
A true friend, you’re very tolerant and understanding.
In fact, your friends’ biggest problem is that they don’t like each other!
You love being around people. Friendships are important to you.
You feel lost when you’re by yourself… so you tend to avoid being alone. |
I’m don’t completely agree with this. I rather enjoy being alone - but then what does chocolate know?

I saw the doctor this morning. Didn’t require X-rays this time (my wallet thanks you!) He said I will need the splint for another 3 weeks. I was afraid of that! It still hurts if I try to use it too much. He did say it was good to use it as much as possible, though. Blogging is a good activity. He admitted to being a lurker in the blogosphere. I told him he needs to leave a comment occasionally - we love comments! lol Last time I saw him he told me to stretch my fingers every day, several times a day to keep them from becoming curled. Today he told me to start curling them, putting gentle pressure on them with the other hand. He wants to make sure I can still make a fist when this is all over. I don’t think I’ll be using that fist to strike anyone or anything, however. I’d hate to take a chance on further damage. I’m still only able to use 3 fingers for typing. But - that is so much better than using only one hand! My spelling is much better with two hands, even though I’m a finger short. Ha-ha
I hope you could follow that ramble. Tomorrow I’ll try to be more interesting. ;D

Christine, Zazzy, Jenn, Schnuckiputz, Zippianna, Phatz, Joie, Lel, Minnesota Nice, Sandy, Pug, W, Jientje, Roger, Lisa, and Diana (I hope I didn’t miss anyone) - Thank you for the expressions of sympathy and the gifts of love. It has been a great comfort to me to hear from my friends. Tomorrow I will be sending Thank You notes and catching up on my correspondence. I’ve rather put my life on hold for a while. It’s time now to rejoin the living and get back to all the people and things I’ve been neglecting.
I know my grief isn’t ended (and probably never will be). I will have many times when I think of Ed and shed a few tears. But, as hard as it may be to believe or understand, mostly I am just happy for him that he is able to move on without the encumbrance of a body that is worn-out and refused to function any longer. I know he is happier than he has been for several years. He is surrounded by people who love him, and able to again do many things that have been impossible for him. And when it’s my turn to go, I know he’ll be there waiting for me. I look forward to dancing with him again.

It has been four days since the passing of my Love. Funeral arrangements are finally all set for Wednesday. It’s a long time to wait, but our family is scattered and we had to allow time for them to gather. On Thursday we will take his body to Twin Falls to be laid to rest near others of our loved ones who have passed on.
I know Ed is in the midst of family and friends who were waiting for him. Our granddaughter asked in her prayer last night that Ed would be blessed to enjoy his spirit life. I, too, hope he is enjoying himself. It’s been a long time since he was able to enjoy anything. I hope that smile is back on his face again. It had been missing for a long time.
I am doing very well. There is grieving to do when someone dies, but a lot of my grieving has been done over the last year since Ed entered the nursing home. I have missed his presence in my life each day and grieved for that loss. I have missed his wonderful, fun personality and grieved that loss also.
In an interview with Teri Irwin after the Crocodile Hunter died she said that what she missed most was the fun that Steve had brought into her life. Well, I related to that because my husband was also full of fun. I’m like Teri - I think I miss that most of all.
I won’t be back to posting regularly for at least another week. After Ed is buried I will be staying with my sister in Buhl until after my birthday and Memorial Day. When I come home I’ll be posting every day again.
To all my friends - Thank you for your kindness, your words of comfort, and your prayers. That means a lot to my family and to me.
