Some of you may be wondering why I have started a new blog. I want to change the focus of my blogging just a bit. I want to spend more time talking about healthy living. When you see this little lady on a post you will know that it deals with healthy eating and/or exercise.

Also, I have read several postings about making extra money with your blog. This is something I want to investigate further. I am on a very limited income right now and every $.10 helps when you’re impoverished. My other blog with WordPress will not allow ads, etc. Along this same line I want to be able to link from this blog to my Mary Kay site (which should be up and running soon). I’m hoping some of you might become customers.

I don’t, however, want to lose readership by being too pushy or limiting my blog to exercise and commerce. I’ll still be joining many of the memes that I have always participated in and sharing stories from my life as a grandma.

Once upon a time there was a princess who had been through a divorce that left her reeling. As she began to heal from this divorce, she loved to go out dancing and meet new people, but preferred to maintain her independence by going alone or with a gal pal. Sometimes she was asked to dance a lot. Sometimes very little. When she wasn’t dancing she tried to sing with the band or find someone who looked miserable and lonely and try to cheer them up.

As it happened there was a big Thanksgiving dinner and dance sponsored by her church that took in congregations from many local-area cities and towns. She attended this event with some of her girlfriends. This was a truly magical night for the princess. It was one of those nights when she was asked to dance a LOT. She was the belle of the ball, and no mistake.

It was customary at these dances to try and introduce people to others they might not have met and get them dancing together. So, the band would announce a “mixer” and all would take to the floor in two lines - one for men and one for women - and the heads of the lines would dance together for a few minutes and then rejoin the line. Once as the princess came to the head of the line she was met by a man with mutton-chop sideburns who strutted up to her and said, “I finally get to dance with the livewire.”

Well, the princess went home to her mother (who was babysitting the little princess-in-training) and told her that she, the princess, had met the “funniest little round man.”

The princess and the round man continued to see each other at dances over the next couple of months and became friends. To the princess he was one of several men she saw frequently at dances and referred to as “her group.” Then the round man decided he didn’t like sharing the princess and so began to court her with great intensity. Soon they were engaged. And even sooner, married.

So that’s how I met my honey. Standing in line waiting for a partner to claim me for a dance. We were married 6 months after we met and will celebrate our 30th anniversary Memorial Day weekend.

Hello, blogging buddies. I’ve been a bit quiet lately - even missed Weekly Winners yesterday. I haven’t left town nor have I found something more interesting to do. I’m working on opening a second blog away from wordpress.com. You can see it here.  There isn’t a lot to see yet.  I’m struggling with themes.  The one I picked out and Zazzy helped me install (or, more properly, she installed it for me) isn’t widgetized.  So, I’m trying to find one that I like that will accept widgets and get it installed.  I’ve had to send out an SOS to Zazzy again - I can’t seem to get the installation done.  I’ll be stopping by to visit my friends later today, and I’ll try to post something more interesting, too. :D

I’m the same old Eve that you’ve always known. I just thought it was time to move up in the world a bit, gain some independence. I’ll still be at the old site for a while, at least. I hope you’ll visit me there until I get this new project up and rolling. In the meantime, just be aware that you are in a construction zone. Be sure to wear your hard hat.

I was intrigued by a comment over at zazamataz.com about shaving your legs.

Consider the following statements - all of which I have personally heard on numerous occasions.

“I couldn’t sleep with him, I hadn’t shaved my legs!”

“She’s one of those women, she doesn’t shave her pits or legs.”

“Oh, I’m glad I’m not dating anyone, I don’t have to shave above my knees.”

Shaving is a choice but there are personal and social repercussions to choosing not to follow the cultural norm. I think over time it has simply become something most of us don’t question. It’s just a part of grooming, right? Yet women in many cultures don’t shave their legs. Men don’t typically shave their legs so there’s probably not a real health benefit to it. So exactly why do many of us do it?

Being the naturally inquisitive person I am, and enjoying a good “discussion,” I decided to see if I could find where this practice began.  Of course, the first source of internet information is Wikipedia which had this to say

The reasons for this cultural standard are debated, but it is sometimes seen as an example of a cultural mechanism for increasing sexual dimorphism. Others have suggested that it was promoted as a means of selling razors to a broader segment of the populace.

Research also suggests that women who do not shave their body hair are “characterized by higher global self-esteem.” [1][unreliable source?] Scholars suggest that this is because women with lower levels of self-esteem are less likely to be satisfied with their natural bodies, and thus more likely to alter them. [2][unreliable source?]

So, what do you think?  Is shaving your legs a sign that you lack self-esteem?  Or is it a way to differentiate between the sexes?   Or just an advertising ploy to sell more razors?

Snopes has some interesting discussion here.

In the last three days I have been getting over 200 hits a day - mostly people who have searched the web for “The Scream.”  Anybody have an idea as to why so many people are searching for The Scream right now?
