I just went out and measured the snow in our front yard.  It is 12 inches deep - that’s one foot of snow!  I took some pictures to share with you.  Sorry about the dark photo, but that’s all the sunshine we’re getting at 12:00 noon today - snow brings lots of cloud cover, too.

This first picture is looking across the street at the neighbor’s tree.

This is the neighbor’s other tree.  You can really see the snow falling in this shot.

And this is the tree in our yard that has red berries on it all winter long.  I love the little white snow caps on the bunches of berries.  Maybe I should have saved this one for Ruby Tuesday.  lol

Not surprisingly we canceled our reservations at Mountain River Ranch - it is up in the foothills and you have to take one of the worst roads in the area to get there.  We decided we’d rather be snowed in here at home than out in the middle of the boon-toolies.

My favorite part of the fair is always the livestock.  So that’s where I’m taking you first.

It was difficult to get a good picture of the Longhorns.  They were eating with their heads down - not a good pose.  And when I found one with its head up it was hidden behind the bars.  lol  One lady stood too close to the bars.  When the longhorn moved its head while eating she got bumped by one of those horns.

I know we have a tendency to think of all longhorns as steers, but most of those on display were cows with calves.  They are VERY protective mothers which added to the difficulty of getting a good, clear picture. :D Notice the horns on the little one (you may have to double click to get a good view).  Other horned breeds at this age are generally showing a bump where a horn will one day be - not actual horns.

This handsome fellow and his two friends across the fence is a black Angus.  When I stopped to take his picture the owner asked my sis if he could help us.  She explained that I was taking photos for my blog.  I told him that his pretty  boy would be seen by readers all over the world.  He offered me a business card to post alongside the photo. :D

From the cattle we moved on to the big draft horses.  There were Belgians and Percherons.  I love these big guys.

This big guy is Goliath.  That’s my sister’s hand reaching out to give him a pat.  She is 5′2″ tall and is reaching above her head to pet him.  Just to give you an idea of how tall he is.

This is Samson.  Again you can see how much taller he is than my sis.

We are now leaving the horses in favor of the chickens.  Chickens are NOT among my faves.  I post these pictures purely for my good friend Christine who loves chakens!  First we have a fine fellow with quite a top knot.

These two have curly feathers.  Lucky chickens!

I’m still trying to figure out why this lovely lady and her four bunnies (2 white, 2 brown) were in the chicken house.  She’s definitely not a chicken. ;)

More fair photos tomorrow.

DOUBLE CLICK ON ANY PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.

I finally got some of my photos ready to post.  These first ones were taken through the observation window at the visitor’s pond at the Clear Springs Trout farm.  The smaller fish are trout, both rainbow and brown speckled.  The larger, shy fellow is a sturgeon.  If you spot any that seem to be swimming upside down, they are reflections in the top of the water.

This next photo is a spring that used to come down the side of the canyon.  It was piped in and the rock opening built many years ago.  Thirsty travelers can stop here and get a drink of cold, clear spring water.  I remember stopping for a drink when I was a child - it was old then.

Yes, there are gators in Idaho - but not growing wild!  These gators were imported from Florida.  Thre is a lot of natural hot water in the Magic Valley especially in the Buhl/Hagerman area.  These gators live at a swimming/therapy pool that is a favorite place to go to relax in the hot water and soak away your aches and pains.  The gators are kept behind a sturdy fence in their very own warm water pool. Actually it is a double fence.  Behind the chain link there is another sturdy fence with a different pattern of links.  Very hard to take a picture through.

I took this picture over the top of the fence, so didn’t get it aimed as well as I would have liked.  If you look closely at the bottom center of the picture you can just see the gator’s back.  This is a good time to double click and enlarge the photo.  You can see more of him under the water when you do that.  There are three of them in the enclosure, but they were staying submerged to keep cool that day.

Post Script:  If you enlarge the picture and look closely you can see two of the gators in the foreground (one in the center the other more to the right).  The third one seems to be hiding under the big rock on the left in the back.  Let me know if you find them.

I’ve been out walking along the Snake River Green Belt again. You might want to look back a couple months to the last time I posted pictures of the Snake for an interesting comparison.

Wordless Tuesday #2

I promised to post more pictures taken while I was in the Twin Falls area. This batch was taken from the Scenic View Area on the North Rim of the Canyon at the Perrine Bridge. At the View Point you can actually get under the bridge. Come with me, I’ll take you a little way into the canyon and under the bridge.
